Pacers Suffer First Loss at Alvernia

Reading, Pa. — Marywood University suffered its first loss of the women's lacrosse season with a 21-9 setback to Alvernia University on Friday night. The Golden Wolves ended the Pacers' three-game winning streak to start the year.
 
Emma Solomon finished with four goals and seven draw controls.
 
Alaina Brenneman had three points with two goals and an assist to go with three caused turnovers. Kayla McCabe factored in with a goal and an assist.
 
Marywood keeper Emily Dyminski made seven saves and added four ground balls.
 
The Golden Wolves broke out of a 2-2 tie through the first 5:17 to score eight unanswered goals in a nine-minute span. Brenneman evened the score at 1-1 in the third minute, and Ashley Cunningham had an unassisted tally to make it a 2-2 game..
 
After Alvernia closed the second quarter with a run of four straight goals to set the running clock, Marywood came out of the locker room at halftime with three straight Solomon goals. Her third cut the score to 14-7 with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Alvernia outshot Marywood by a 35-15 margin. The Golden Wolves had 18 ground balls to the Pacers' 13 pickups. Alvernia won the draw control game by a 20-14 edge.
 
Marywood (3-1) continues its seven-game road trip to open the season with a March 15 matchup at Misericordia University in the Back Mountain.
