Baseball Sweeps Geneva to Move to 4-2

Fort Pierce, Fla. - Marywood University baseball swept Geneva College by scores of 6-3 and 15-5 Tuesday in Florida to improve to 4-2 on the year. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 2-2 with the losses.

In the 6-3 opening game win, Marywood used a five run second inning to secure the victory. James Myers' sacrifice fly to right scored the first run of the game, and Robert Egan singled to right to bring home another run. Kyle Morin would come home when Egan was caught stealing, and Vinny D'Auria and Qiunton Roma both scored on a centerfield error.

Geneva used a pair of RBI doubles and an RBI single to get three back in the third, then made it a 5-4 ballgame with another RBI double in the fifth.

In the seventh, Marywood picked up a couple insurance runs on a Myers single to right that scored Ben Gravel, and Jake Schuster would score on the play as well.

Gravel finished the opener 3-for-4 and Egan went 2-for-3. Schuster had a double and D'Auria had a triple in the win.

On the mound, Joseph Bruno (2-0) got the win after striking out seven over four innings of work. A trio of relievers - Antonio Ferraro, Danny Becker and Tyler Quick - preserved the win. Quick earned his second save of the season, striking out two of the four batters he faced in the final inning.

In the nightcap, the Pacers plated all 15 of their runs over the opening three innings, which included a seven-run second and six-run third. Marywood out-hit Geneva 11-3 in the victory.

Dan Cossa (1-0) struck out three and allowed one earned run on one hit. Marywood again used three other pitchers for an inning apiece to preserve the win. Gerald O'Hara, Aaron Gutierrez and AJ Jordan kept the Golden Tornadoes off the scoreboard, combining to allow just two hits over three innings.

Jake Schuster was 2-for-4 with three runs scored while D'Auria, Morin and James Myers all had two hits and two RBI.

Adam Anderson and D'Auria each had doubles, while Theobald and Schuster each had triples.

Marywood is back in action Thursday with a twinbill against Wilkes. The first game is set for a 11:30 am start.
