Rose's Game-Winning Single Puts Pacers Atop AEC Standings

Mara Hamm throws a scoreless complete game in opener

Scranton, Pa. - Emily Rose hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to put Marywood University in sole possession of first place in the Atlantic East Conference softball standings. The Pacers defeated Gwynedd Mercy 8-0 in a six-inning opener and 3-2 in the nightcap.

Game 2: Marywood 3, Gwynedd Mercy 2

Rose drove in Mara Hamm to complete a come-from-behind victory. Hamm opened the inning by drawing a walk, advancing to second base via a wild pitch. After Abbey Stalter moved Hamm to third base with a sacrifice bunt, Rose hit a single to second base, and Hamm beat the throw to the plate.

Lindsey Jason hit her first career home run. Jason finished 2 for 3 with a stolen base.

Hamm finished with 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI.

Gianna Marsico picked up her sixth victory of the season. She allowed eight hits and two earned runs. Marsico struck out five.

In the first, Jason gave the Pacers an early lead with a roundtripper down the left-field line.

Gwynedd Mercy took the lead with runs in the third and the fourth. Ashley Focht evened the score with a sacrifice fly. An inning later, Emma Carney singled to right field to take a 2-1 advantage. Marsico stranded the runner at third to close the frame.

Marywood responded in the bottom half of the fourth. Ashton Clark singled to lead off the fourth, and Julianna Beidler legged out an infield single to put runners on base. Hamm went to the opposite field to drive in Clark.

Game 1: Marywood 8, Gwynedd Mercy 0 (6 inn.)

Mara Hamm pitched six scoreless innings to earn a shutout for her eighth win. Hamm allowed three hits and struck out six.

The Pacers tallied 14 base hits, all but one of which were singles.

Lindsey Jason and Ashdon Clark both went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. Cait Becher batted 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Sam Baltrusaitis reached twice with a run and two RBIs. Clark had the lone extra-base hit with a double.

Marywood did not strike throughout the game.

The Pacers (14-6, 7-1 AEC) scored two runs in the first innings. Clark and Becher hit back-to-back RBI singles to the middle.

A five-run seventh inning gave the Pacers a comfortable lead. Julianna Beidler beat out an Emily Rose fielder's choice throw to home. Jason hit a bases-loaded single to left field to drive in two runs. Baltrusaitis followed with a bases-loaded single.

After leaving the bases-loaded in the fifth, Marywood tallied the mercy rule run in the sixth inning. Sarah Sharp hit a single to center field. She scored on a Clark double to right center, the lone extra-base hit of the contest.

Marywood travels to Cazenovia on Tuesday.
