Solomon Lifts Pacers to First Atlantic East Victory with Double OT Game-Winner

Solomon tallies six points, five ground balls and two caused turnovers

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - Senior Emma Solomon scored a game-winning goal in double overtime to lift Marywood University to its first Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse victory of the season. The Pacers defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 12-11 in double overtime.

After Taylor Barksdale successfully cleared the ball following a Gwynedd Mercy turnover, Ashley Cunningham crossed open field and dumped a pass to Solomon on the right edge of the 8-meter circle. Solomon drove along the arc and fired a shot for the game-winning goal.

The victory ends the Pacers' seven-game losing streak.

Solomon tied a career-high with six points. She scored five goals and an assist. Solomon had a team-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Kayla McCabe finished with three goals and an assist for four points. She added 10 draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ashley Cunningham added four draw controls.

In goal, Emily Dyminski made 12 saves. Her counterpart Reilly Owens had eight stops.

Marywood (4-7, 1-3 AEC) jumped out to a comfortable early lead. Solomon started the action with a goal 42 seconds into regulation, and the Pacers scored on a rare team goal on an errant Gwynedd Mercy pass.

The Griffins evened the score at 3-3 on Anna Grace Bernicker's unassisted tally. Marywood responded with five unanswered goals. Lauren Matarazzo gave the Pacers a lead at the 2:05 mark of the first quarter, and McCabe capped the run with goal at 7:19 to take a five-goal lead. Gwynedd Mercy added a pair of goals in the last six minutes of the first half to cut Marywood's lead to 8-5.

Marywood recouped in the third quarter with early goals from McCabe and Kortney Harry. The Griffins responded with three goals in a four-minute span. After Cunningham was able to put skid marks on the Griffins' run, Gwynedd Mercy responded with another string of three straight goals. Alysia Collins scored with 55 seconds left in the third quarter on a Bernicker feed to even the score at 11-11 heading into the final frame.

More than six scoreless minutes were upended by a pair of Solomon goals, the second of which came with 6:35 remaining. Seydel Acuna tied the game with a Bernicker-assisted goal with 58 seconds left in regulation.

In the first overtime, Dyminski made a pair of saves to keep the Griffins at bar. She stopped a Laura Pelczar free-position shot at 3:27, and kept away a Bernicker attempt on goal eight seconds later. Bernicker's shot attempt dinged off the post.

The Griffins outshot Marywood by a 35-29 margin. The Griffins had a 27-21 advantage in ground balls. Marywood topped the Griffins 20-13 in draw controls.
