Softball Hits 20 Win Mark, Sweeps Neumann

Aston, Pa. - Marywood University softball improved to 20-6 after a pair of wins over Neumann University Thursday afternoon. The Pacers won the opener 9-1 and the nightcap 5-1 to move to 9-1 in league play.

Mara Hamm (11-2) struck out four and allowed six hits and one run for the complete-game victory in the opener. Ashdon Clark drove in three runs while Emily Rose drove in a pair. Rose, Samantha Baltrusaitis and Cait Becher all doubled while Clark doubled twice in the win.

Marywood went up 1-0 on a RBI groundout from Kristie Epler in the second. After Neumann tied things up in the home-half of the inning on a sacrifice flyout, Clark doubled in two runs in the third to put the Pacers up for good.

In the fifth, Clark again doubled, scoring Nina Kozara.  Baltrusaitis then doubled in a run with a drive to left, and Becher followed with another RBI double that would score Baltrusaitis.

Rose picked up the Pacers' fifth RBI double in the sixth inning, scoring Lindsey Jason and Brooke McKay, and Marywood added an unearned run in the seventh to complete the scoring.

In the nightcap, Neumann loaded the bases in both the second and third innings but came away with just one run. Baltrusaitis had a 26 pitch at-bat for the Pacers in the second inning, fouling off 22 times and taking four balls as she wound up with a base on balls.

Gianna Marsico (9-4) got the complete-game win, striking out three after allowing seven hits. Clark doubled again in the nightcap, as did Nina Kozar. Kozar drove in two to highlight the Pacers' 5-1 win.

Neumann scored on a fielder's choice in the second to take a 1-0 lead, but again could not capitalize more despite having the bases loaded that inning and again in the third.

Marywood tied the game on a Kozar RBI double to right in the third, and Kozar's single down the right field line scored Jason in the fifth to give the Pacers a 2-1 lead. Clark followed with an RBI double to right center that scored Kozar, and Baltrusaitis drove home Clark with a single. Becher then closed the Pacers' four-run inning with an RBI single up the middle to plate Baltrusaitis.

Marywood will host Marymount University (Va.) Saturday at 1:00 pm in their Atlantic East regular season finale.
