Scibello Lights Up in Second Half to Break Goals Record, Notch No. 3 Seed

Nick Ericson wins 14 of 16 faceoffs (.875)

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University notched the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse playoffs with a 7-5 victory over Neumann University. With their 11th victory of the season, the Pacers match the second-best record in program history.

John Scibello broke Marywood's single-season goals record with his 46th of the season. Entering the game in a three-way tie with Rob Maini and Matt Casto, Scibello scored all five of Marywood's goals in the second half. He added an assist to add to his school-record for points.

Nick Ericson won 14 of 16 faceoff chances for a .875 winning percentage. Ericson added 10 ground balls to his school record total.

The Pacers (11-5, 4-2 AEC) received a goal and an assist from Dalton Metzger.

Defensively, Kieran Scanlan picked up five ground balls. Scibello added four ground balls.

Connor Reed made 19 saves. He allowed just five goals for a single-game save percentage of .791.

The Pacers and Knights (9-7, 2-3 AEC) traded goals for the first 51 minutes of the game. Neither team had more than a one goal lead until the final goal of regulation.

After a one-goal lead seesawed between Marywood and Neumann for the opening half, Scibello broke the school record a mere seven seconds after the second-half whistle. Ericson won the faceoff and dished a downfield pass for a one-timer for Scibello to even the score at 3-3.

Less than a minute later, Brett McLaughlin scored a man-up goal via Rich Marshall. Harrison Miccio delivered Scibello with an assist to square the score at 4-4 at the 10:21 mark of the third quarter. Emmett Wexler reclaimed the Knights' lead at 5-4. Marywood tied the score for the third time in the quarter off of a Scibello-from-Metzger connection.

Scibello scored the go-ahead goal with 12:38 remaining in the fame. He added an insurance goal when he fired a well-struck shot with 8:53 left.

Neumann found itself with a 1:30 man-up advantage with just 3:40 remaining. Reed stopped a Wyatt Belotti attempt, and Matt Potter picked up a crucial ground balls. The Knights committed an unnecessary roughness penalty that made the game even strength. Shortly after Scanlan retained possession on ground ball pickup, Neumann received a game-disqualifying unsportsmanlike conduct that kept them a man-down until the final whistle.

Marywood has its best record since 2015. The Pacers squashed a four-game losing streak in the match history with the Knights. Marywood leads the series, 10-4.

The Pacers outshot the Knights by a 43-35 mark. Marywood had a 42-34 advantage in ground balls.

Marywood will wait until the rest of the Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse schedule has been played out to learn of its first-round opponent. The game will be set for Saturday, April 30 at a time to be determined depending on the Atlantic East women's lacrosse playoff seedings.
