Women's Tennis Advances, Hosts AEC Championship Saturday

Pacers defeat Gwynedd Mercy 5-0, host Immaculata in final

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University women's tennis defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 5-0 to advance to the Atlantic East Conference Championship match. The top-seeded Pacers (10-7) will host #2 Immaculata Saturday for the Conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championship Tournament. 

Immaculata defeated #3 Marymount (Va.) 5-4 in the other conference semifinal.

Against the Griffins (4-7), Marywood took forfeit wins at #3 doubles and #6 singles. Ahead 2-0, Marywood got wins in double action from Allison Bashore and Gabriella Nowak at one-doubles (8-1) as well as Faith Kendricks and Karah Laboranti at two-doubles (8-3).

It took just one singles victory for the Pacers to advance to Saturday's title match. Laboranti dispatched of #5 singles opponent Nicole Rival 6-0, 6-0 to secure that spot.

Marywood led in three other singles matches before the decisive fifth point was earned. 

The Pacers will host the Mighty Macs at 1:00 pm Saturday with an automatic bid on the line.
