Marywood Upends Immaculata in Atlantic East Showdown

Connor Reed turns away 11 of 15 shots on goal

Immaculata, Pa. — Marywood University evened its Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse record with a 11-4 defeat of Immaculata University on Wednesday. 

The Pacers kept the Mighty Macs to just one first half goal. They outscored Immaculata 8-1 in the opening 38 minutes of the game. 

Freshman John Scibello finished with seven points on three goals and four assists. He added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Sophomore Dalton Metzger supplied four goals and an assist for five points. 

In goal, senior goalkeeper Connor Reed turned away 11 of 15 attempts on target. He was helped by a combined 15 caused turnovers from the Marywood defense. Cam Hallett picked up four ground balls. 

At the faceoff-x, Nick Ericson won 10 of 18 with six ground balls. 

Other notable multi-point scorers for Marywood include Dillon Kane (2g-1a), Matt Manna (2a) and Ben Mustakos (1g-2a). 

Scibello had a hand in the all four goals of the first quarter. He opened the game with the first two, scoring at the 12:38 and 4:08 marks of the opening quarter. Scibello then assisted the next two tallies, connecting with Metzger and Kane to take a 4-0 lead at the first break. 

After the Macs' Steve Long ended the scoreless drought, Marywood went on a four-goal run. Metzger supplied the Pacers' lone goal of the second quarter on a pass from Manna. The Pacers posted three unanswered goals in the first three minutes of the third quarter. Metzger's score from Scibello at 10:31 gave Marywood an 8-1 advantage. 

Despite the lopsided score, Marywood out-shot the Macs by a 47-37 rate. The Pacers edged the Macs 30-26 in ground balls. Marywood was 2-for-3 on extra man opportunities. 

The Pacers welcome Centenary University on Saturday at 1 p.m. Marywood will host its Senior Day celebration prior to the game.
