Persico Repeats as Field Athlete of the Year; 21 Named All-Atlantic East

Ahrens collects third AEC Coaching Staff of the Year

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University senior Kristen Persico repeated as Atlantic East Conference Field Athlete of the Year, officials announced Tuesday. The Pacers placed 21 individuals and relays on All-Atlantic East First and Second Teams en route to winning their third consecutive championship.

Additionally, Brianna Roth was named the Elite 20 Award Winner, and Marywood garnered Coaching Staff of the Year for the third straight year.

Persico
was named the Field Athlete of the Year for the second-straight time after earning a gold, a silver and a bronze in her events. Persico won the javelin throw with a 29.98m toss. She took second in the hammer throw and third in discus throw, respectively. The senior also represented the Pacers in the shot put event.

Marywood claimed the Coaching Staff of the Year accolade after leading the women's team to its third-straight Atlantic East Conference title. The coaching staff consists of Rob Ahrens, Kevin Borrelli, Dejon Bennett-Monroe, Carl Daubert, Frank Passetti and Lauren Calvey.

Roth, a member of three-time conference champion Marywood, maintains a cumulative 4.0 GPA as an Exercise Science major. Roth was also First Team in the high jump, clearing a mark of 4 feet, 6 3/4 inches (1.39m) that registered as No. 3 in the school record book. The Elite 20 award winner is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships.

Freshman Rosalyn Page broke a meet, conference and school record in a first-place shot put performance. Page's throw measured at 40 feet, 4 inches (12.29m) to set a new bench mark. She also broke a meet record in her First Team All-AEC discus throw. Page hit a mark of 116 feet, 11 inches (35.64m).

Sophomore Molly Repecki set a new meet record in the 10K. Repecki clocked in at 44:29.6 to earn First Team status.

Freshman Gabby Snee set a new meet record in the 3K steeplechase. Snee ran the course in 13:16.89, dropping 18 seconds off her PR.

Sophomore Caitlin Mills edged the competition in the 100 dash to get First Team. She finished in 13.56 seconds.

Senior Katie Shea repeated her title as First Team All-AEC in the 1,500, running in 5:18.19 for her fourth career individual women's track and field gold medal. Shea was runner-up in the 5K in 21:05.06 for Second Team.

Just ahead was freshman Milana Straub with a 5K gold medal. Straub ran the race in 20:45.83.

Marywood had the First and Second recipients in the 800. Sophomore Hayley Gaines won the race in 2:33.75. Fellow sophomore Cydney Lahr was runner-up with a time of 2:37.22.

The Pacers swept the relay events to earn a pair of First Team merits. Chesna Andrade-Foster, Maryam Hamidi, Caitlin Mills and Awnshaé Smith took the 4x100 relay in 52.68 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, Hayley Gaines, Madi Howell, Hamidi, and Andrade-Foster had the top spot in 4:19.91.

A three-way tie in the pole vault merited a pair of First Team All-Atlantic East nods for the Pacers. Freshman Emma Wagner and senior Chesna Andrade-Foster cleared the bar at 7 feet, 1/2 inches (2.15m).

Senior Awnshaé Smith had four Second Team awards in the hurdles and jumping events. Smith measured at 15 feet, 9 1/2 inches (4.81m) in the long jump. She hit a mark of 32 feet, 5 1/2 inches (9.89m) in the triple jump. Her clearance of 4 feet, 4 3/4 inches (1.34m) gave her second place in the high jump. Smith was runner-up in the 100 hurdles in 16.29 seconds.

Marywood will compete next at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Qualifiers. Qualifying Pacers will compete at the AARTFC Championships next week at Moravian University.
