Women's Soccer Blanks Keystone in Opener

Carly Walters tallies eight points on three goals, two assists in debut

LaPlume, Pa. - Freshman midfielder Carly Walters had a hat trick and two assists in her debut and Victoria Tzitzis added two goals to lift Marywood women's soccer to a season-opening 7-0 win at Keystone College Thursday night.

Josephine Sorce had three assists, and Rebekah Becker made six saves - including three breakaway stops - to preserve a clean sheet.

Marywood (1-0) outshot the host Giants 33-12 for the game and had a 18-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Pacers also had six corners to one for the hosts. Annie Metzger made a game-high 11 stops in net for the Giants.

Kate Kollar-Dye opened the scoring for Marywood just 2:40 into the contest when she one-timed home a slot pass in the six from Riley Mulherin.  Just under nine minutes later, Walters scored the first of two in a row on a feed from Sorce.

Walter then tallied an unassisted goal in the 17th minute, and Tzitzis would score back-to-back goals off helpers from Walters in the 26th and 32nd minutes to make it 5-0 in favor of Marywood.

Mulherin would then tally her first of the year on an assist from Sorce in the 35th minute, and Walters would complete her hat trick off a feed from Sorce in the 64th.

Marywood hosts Centennial Conference powerhouse Swarthmore - a 2-1 winner over Arcadia in their opener - Saturday at 1:00pm in Scranton.
