Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Cairn Edges Women's Tennis 5-4 in Opener

Langhorne, Pa. - Despite four victories in singles action Marywood University women's tennis suffered a 5-4 season opening setback to Cairn University Saturday.

The Highlanders took all three doubles matches to build an early cushion, then held off the Pacers' comeback in singles play.

All three doubles matches were tight, with Marywood dropping 6-8 decisions at 1 and 3 doubles and a 5-8 decision at two-doubles.

Despite Allison Bashore falling 1-6, 6-7 (3-7) at the top singles flight and going behind 4-0 overall, the Pacers (0-1) did not quit.

Victories from Gabriella Nowak at 2-singles, Veronica Schneider at 4-singles and Kayla Flyte at 6-singles had Marywod back in the match.

In a marathon set, Faith Kendricks was able to secure the Pacers' fourth point on the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-7 (14-16), 1-0 (10-8) win over Rachel Campbell-Robinson.

Cairn's Abby Horning secured the hosts' victory at five singles.

Marywood hosts The University of Scranton Wednesday at 4:00pm.
