Pacers Upend Broncos in Three Sets

Marywood close key first-set 25-23 win with three straight points

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University scratched out a pair of sets separated by just two points en route to a 3-0 win over SUNY Delhi Tuesday in non-conference volleyball action. The Pacers defeated the Broncos by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-21. 

Emily O'Brien had an outstanding performance with 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Casey Hagerstrom provided eight kills with just one error for a .636 attack percentage. 

Mikayla Meek finished with a team-high 11.5 points. Meek compiled nine kills, 15 assists, and eight digs. 

Defensively, Donna Bostjancic posted 13 digs. 

Sydney Steiner tacked on 18 assists. 

Despite the shutout, the Pacers had just a 46-42 advantage in points. Marywood led in kills (36-29), aces (7-6), assists (34-26) and digs (43-31). Marywood finished the night with a .170 attack percentage. 

In the first set, the Broncos (1-4) took a late 23-22 lead when Stephanie Burke kill. Marywood finished with three straight points to cap the first-set win. Hagerstrom had set point on a kill from a Meek feed. 

Marywood replicated the score in the second set. Bostjancic served six straight points to go ahead by a 10-5 score. O'Brien's kill gave Marywood a 16-10 advantage. The Broncos stormed back, cutting the Pacers' lead to just two occasions. After the Broncos broke two straight set points, Marywood took the 2-0 advantage on a set error. 

The Pacers trailed 10-6 in the third set but were propelled by an 11-3 run that ensued. Marywood took advantage of errors, and Libby Smith squared the score at 11 apiece with an ace. Later, Corr gave Marywood its first lead with a kill.

The Pacers (4-3) travel down the line to take on King's College in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday evening.
