Pair of Scarlet Raiders' Braces Sets Back Men's Soccer

Darren Hyde makes three saves in 28 minutes

Scranton, Pa. — Two Rutgers-Newark players each scored two goals that lifted the visitors to a 4-0 win over Marywood University in men's soccer. The Pacers fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Scarlet Raiders even their record to 2-2-2. 

Jonah Dias and Franco Catania both had a pair for Rutgers-Newark. 

Pablo Moreno sent a through ball that beat an offsides trip, setting up Catalina's breakaway chance in the 22nd minute. Just over four minutes later, Catania secured his brace with a penalty kick goal. 

Dias tallied his first on a set piece play in the 38th minute. From the left sideline, Erick Morales' ball in missed multiple players' kicking legs. It found Dias at the far post for a tap-in goal. Dias scored again in the 48th minute. On a corner kick chance, Giovanni Zangiacomi corralled the ball at the 15-yard line and centered a ball for Dias. After his first attempt was met with a diving save, Dias collected the loose ball and delivered just inside the right post. 

Alex Russo made four saves in 62 minutes. Darren Hyde played a perfect 28 minutes with three saves, including one on a point-blank range on a 1v1 chance. 

Rutgers-Newark outshot Marywood 27-5 and 11-3 on target. Newark had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

Marywood looks to break its losing streak on Saturday with a home game against Clarks Summit University at 4 p.m.
