Set Pieces Secure Pacers' 4-1 Win over Clarks Summit

Fuchs finishes with pair of assists

Scranton, Pa. — Set pieces were the specialty of Marywood University men's soccer in a 4-1 victory over Clarks Summit University on Saturday. The Pacers scored each of their four goals off corner kicks or direct kicks.

David Chemidlin and Mason Guelho finished with a goal and an assist. Richard Fuchs added two assists.

The Pacers ended a three-game losing streak with the win over the Defenders. Marywood evented its record to 3-3 on the season.

Marywood scored first in the 16th minute on a stunning Chemidlin header. Off of a corner kick, Chemidlin headed a Fuchs corner to take the lead. Marywood replicated the goal seven minutes later when Kiernan Wilder one-touched a ball in the air via a Chris Valdes corner kick to the far side.

Trey Watson added to the Pacers' lead in the 36th minute. Off of a direct kick from 35 yards away, Chemidlin hit a ball to the left side in the box. Guelho headed the ball center, and Watson lunged at the ball with his right foot from 3 yards out.

Clarks Summit (3-2) added a set piece goal of their own in the 76th minute. Israel Segura hit a direct kick from along the left sideline from 30 yards away. Nick Faith headed the ball in the center of the box into goal to end the shutout threat.

Guelho scored off off a Fuchs corner kick in the 83th minute to cap the scoring.

Despite the score, the Defenders out-shot Marywood 16-14 and edged the Pacers 7-6 on target. Clarks Summit had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Darren Hyde made six saves to earn the win in goal. The Defenders' Kristian Figuerora had a pair of stops.
