Field Hockey Overpowers Giants for 7-2 Win

Milana Straub scores a pair of goals

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University field hockey offense exploded in a resounding 7-2 victory over Keystone College on Friday afternoon. The Pacers responded to a one-goal third quarter advantage with three goals in a 3:26 span.

Milana Straub led the Pacers' offense with two goals. Lauren Youngken provided a goal and two assists.

Midfielder Riley Kennedy filled in at goalkeeper to earn her first career victory. Kennedy made one save in the cage.

After Keystone's Maria Belen Rodriguez trimmed the Pacers' lead to 2-1, the Pacers responded with a barrage of goals. Brianna Sumner scored her second of the season on a Youngken assist in the 38th minute. A mere 97 seconds later, Youngken scripted her name into the box score with an unassisted goal. In the 41st minute, Belle Coleman added one more dagger when she sent a Meghan Van Wert feed into the back of the cage for a 5-1 lead.

Straub capped the night with back-to-back goals within five minutes of each other. She redirected a Youngken and Amanda Leeland pass to wrap up the Pacers' scoring.

The two teams played to a scoreless first quarter. Following a penalty corner, Slusser fired a shot at a tight angle that unhinged the cage, supplying the Pacers with a 1-0 advantage in the 20th minute. Victoria Schultz doubled the lead in the 25th minute when her stick found an Angie Genter pass and lifted it past the goal line.

Marywood out-shot Keystone by a 29-7 margin and had a 24-3 advantage on target. The Pacers led 25-3 in penalty corners.

The Pacers are idle for eight days until they host SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, Sept. 24.
