Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three Tally Goals as Women's Soccer Defeats Alvernia, 3-2

Reading, Pa. - Three different players scored goals to help lift Marywood University women's soccer to a 3-2 non-conference win over Alvernia University Saturday.

Brooke Longstreet, Caroline Walters and Gillian Way tallied for the Pacers as they snapped a three-game losing streak and a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) to improve to 2-5-1 on the year.

In just the seventh minute of play, Marywood was awarded a corner kick and Josephine Sorce's cross found the head of Longstreet. Longstreet's redirected ball went to the far post where it was determined to have crossed the goal line before a defender could clear the ball successfully.

Caroline Walters took advantage of a turnover in the Pacers' attacking third in the 35th minute and beat one defender before beating the goalkeeper to double the Pacers' lead.

The Golden Wolves (2-4-2) did not go quietly into halftime as they scored with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half when Olivia Malone found the back of the net on a feed from Haley Dougherty.

Marywood got a much needed insurance goal in the 76th minute when Caroline Plank played the ball out wide to Isabel Shore, who took it to the endline and slotted a ball across the six to a streaking Gillian Way who tucked it home with a one-timer back to the near-side netting.

That goal proved crucial as just 21 seconds later Alvernia got their second of the game when Macy McDonough scored to make it 3-2.

Marywood was able to hold off several last ditch efforts from the Golden Wolvers to secure the win.

The Pacers got four saves from Rebekah Becker in the win.

Marywood hosts Wilkes Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
