#10 Scranton Overpowers Marywood

Scranton, Pa. - The 10th-ranked University of Scranton women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over visiting Marywood University Wednesday evening at Weiss Field. The Royals moved to 3-0 on the season while the Pacers slipped to 1-2.

Gabrielle Richetti opened the scoring in the 8th minute, one-timing home a slot pass from Samantha Goffice in the middle of the 18-yard box. In a nearly identical play in the 20th minute of action, Lindsay Sundheimer finished one-time on a feed across the box.

The score would remain 2-0 until after the half, when the Royals exploded for four more goals. The first two came in the 50th and 53rd minute, then Scranton's Claire Sites headed home a corner kick from Mary Haggerty, who opened the second half scoring for the Royals. Scranton closed the scoring with a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

Scranton enjoyed a 24-1 advantage in shots on goal (13-0 on goal). Rebekah Becker made a game-high seven saves in the loss.  Scranton had six corners to none for the Pacers.

Marywood is back on the road Saturday as they travel to St. David's to take on Eastern University at 1:00 pm.
