Men's Basketball Stalled by Knights, 101-83

Aston, Pa. — Marywood University let a second-half lead slip in a 101-83 loss to defending Atlantic East Conference men's basketball champion Neumann University on Saturday. The Pacers led by as much as six before the Knights sealed the victory in the last eight minutes.

Brendan Franko led Marywood scorers for the second straight game off of the bench. He made all eight field goals — including three 3-pointers — for a 19-point performance.

Cole Johnson finished with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson made 9 of 10 from the charity stripe.

Trevor Seitz provided a 14-point performance.

Neumann had three players with 20-plus performances from Tony James (25), TJ Lewis (22), and Kyle Thompson (21). Jalen Vaughns had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

After shooting a paltry 18 percent from beyond the arc in its conference opener earlier this week, Marywood connected for 46.9 percent of its long-range shots, making 15 of 32 attempts. Seitz led the Pacer shooters with four 3-pointers.

Neumann took the lead for the first time in the second half when Thompson sank a 3-pointer on a Lewis assist near the 15-minute mark. Franko responded with a 3-pointer of his own to go ahead 54-52. The teams traded leads over the next four minutes. A six-point run provided Neumann with a 64-58 that they would not give up the rest of the way.

Marywood tied the game three times to no avail. After a pair of Johnson free throws evened the score at 71-71, the Knights went on a seven-point run to make it a three-possession contest.

The Pacers (6-8, 0-2) look to get their first conference win on Wednesday at Gwynedd Mercy University.
