Pacers Put Up Dominant Performance Over Griffins

Ewing's shutout led to fifth straight victory

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — Marywood University blanked Gwynedd Mercy University 4-0 on Saturday to remain undefeated in Atlantic East Conference field hockey play. The Pacers won their fifth straight game, and they have won three of the past four against the Griffins. 

With the victory, the Pacers improve to 11-3 (3-0 AEC), while the Griffins drop to 2-11 (1-3 AEC). 

Cydney Lahr scored a brace for Marywood. Cassie Slusser and Belle Coleman each found the back of the cage. 

Lahr opened up the scoring for Marywood in the ninth minute, as she scored an unassisted put-back goal, off of a penalty corner. 

In the 31st minute, Lahr scored yet again, this time assisted by Dariane Jones. The pass from Jones led to an easy tap in for Lahr, whose second tally of the game put the Pacers up 2-0. 

Coleman continued the Marywood domination when she found the back of the cage in the 42nd minute. Brie Sumner found the open Coleman to build the lead to 3-0, gathering an assist for herself along the way. 

The fourth and final Pacer goal came off the stick of Cassie Slusser who followed up a blocked shot just after another penalty corner in the 56th minute. 

Marywood recorded 20 total shots, with 11 being on goal. 

The Griffins had eight total shots, three of which were on goal. 

Leah Ewing recorded three saves, while Griffins' Nikki Williams recorded six. 

Gwynedd Mercy's Abby LePage recorded one defensive save. 

The Pacers led the Griffins 9-7 in penalty corners. 

Marywood will head back home for their next match. It hosts Immaculata University at 6pm on Wednesday.
