Marywood Hold Off Knights in 4-0 Victory

Ewing records fourth shutout

Aston, Pa. - With the No. 2 playoff seed already secured, Marywood University blanked Neumann University 4-0 Wednesday in the Atlantic East Conference field hockey finale. The victory helped Marywood improve to 13-4 (5-1 AEC), while Neumann falls to 5-13 (2-4 AEC).

Marywood will host the highest-remaining seed to make it through the first round. The Pacers will welcome their postseason competition on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Cydney Lahr finished with a pair of goals for Marywood. Dariane Jones had a goal and an assist.

Together, they made their mark on the Marywood record books. Lahr ties Leanne McManus' 2015 school record of 46 single-season points. She also moves into sole possession of second place on the single-season record books with her 19th goal. Meanwhile, Jones broke a 12-year school record with her 12th assist of the season. Her 40th point ranks third all-time at Marywood.

The Pacers were able to get on the board first in the 11th minute when Jones was able to connect with Lauren Youngken to grab the 1-0 lead.

In the 14th minute, Marywood struck again when Lahr was able to put one past the Neumann goalkeeper and into the back of the cage, growing the lead to 2-0. Lahr wasn't done though as she was able to score yet again in the 17th minute of play. Lahr's second tally of the night made it 3-0 Pacers.

In the 19th minute of play, Jones scored a goal of her own, padding the Pacers' lead as it stretched to 4-0. The fourth and final insurance goal proved to be more than enough to secure the victory.

Marywood was able to out-shoot Neumann 27-7. Twenty-three of the shots were on goal for the Pacers, while the Knights recorded three on goal. Penalty corners were even for both sides at seven apiece.

Leah Ewing recorded three saves for the Pacers, while Emma Schneider recorded 19 for the Knights.
