Pacers Run Wild in Second Half to Lock No. 1 Seed

Sorce breaks career assists record

Immaculata, Pa. - Marywood University secured the top seed in the Atlantic East Conference women's soccer playoffs for the fourth consecutive time. The Pacers used a six-goal second half to down Immaculata University 7-0 on Wednesday in the regular season finale. 

Marywood (8-6-2, 4-1-1 AEC) earns a first-round bye and will host the lowest remaining seed on Halloween. 

Josephine Sorce broke the Marywood career assists record. Sorce assisted three goals in an eight-minute span. She surpassed Julie Youngman (2015-18) and Rebecca Grubb (2001-02) with her 31st career helper. Sorce also had a goal. 

Riley Mulherin scored a career-best four goals. Mulherin improved to 19 goals on the season -- the fourth best in program history. She scored four consecutive goals in a 13-minute window. 

After putting together one goal before halftime, the Pacers scored twice in the first 32 seconds of the second half. Sorce and Mulherin scored back-to-back in a 10-second span. 

Caroline Walters supplied Marywood with a first-half lead. She intercepted a defensive clear at the 15-yard line and lifted a shot over the goalkeeper's reach in the 30th minute. 

Colleen O'Brien scored her first goal as a Marywood student-athlete. Combined with her three years at Juniata, O'Brien has seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Yianna Mazzella supplied her first career assist on O'Brien's 87th minute goal. 

Marywood doubled the Mighty Macs in shots 24-12 and held onto a 15-7 advantage in shots on target. Both teams had four corner kicks. 

Mila Elash and Kyra McFadden combined for a shutout. Elash made six saves, and McFadden had one stop. 

In the first round, No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy will take on No. 3 Cabrini. Fifth-seeded Centenary battled No. 4 Neumann. Marymount has the No. 2 seed with 11 points.
