Pacers Fall in a Seesaw Contest Against Wilkes, 56-50

Scranton, Pa. — On Friday evening, the Pacers welcomed the Colonels of Wilkes University into Insalaco Arena, for the much anticipated non-conference home opener. Marywood fell in the close 56-50 contest.

The first quarter of play was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with multiple lead changes. Marywood dug out of a seven point hole to even the score, before taking a 15-13 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Colonels were held scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of the second quarter, while the Pacers were able to hold the lead and go into halftime up 24-23.

In quarter three, Wilkes battled back, eventually taking the lead, and wrapped up the quarter up 41-37.

In an absolutely exhilarating fourth and final quarter of play, the Colonels were able to regain the lead yet again and hold on for the 56-50 victory.

From the floor, the Pacers shot 18-58 (31%), while also tallying a 3-14 (21.4%) clip from behind the arc and 11-13 (84.6%) from the stripe.

The Colonels fared similarly, shooting 22-66 (33.3%) from the floor, 4-21 (19%) from three, and 8-10 (80%) on free throws.

Marywood out-rebounded Wilkes 48-36, in part to Mia Blume leading the way with eight.

Blume was also the highest scorer for the Pacers, dropping 11 points on the night while  shooting 3-8 (2-5 3P).

Wilkes guard, Nadia Evanosky, led all scorers with 17 points.

The Pacers fall to 1-1 with the loss, but hope to rebound on Monday as they host the cross-town rival Knights from the University of Scranton at 6pm.
