Women's Basketball Shines in Season Opener, 82-42

Marywood 12-24 from beyond the arc

Clarks Summit, Pa. — Marywood University opened the women's basketball season by defeating the Clarks Summit Knights 82-42 on Wednesday.

The Marywood victory was led offensively by Mia Blume (22 points) and Rachel McDonald (19 points), who combined for exactly half of the Pacer points while shooting 15-27 (55.5%) from the floor, and 9-17 (52.9%) from behind the arc. McDonald finished with eight assists.

The first quarter saw nothing but excellence from the Pacers, who did not trail once. The lead grew to as much as 15.

The second quarter of play was not any different, allowing Marywood to take a 23 point lead into halftime.

The Pacers did not let their foot off the gas in quarters three and four either, carrying a 37 point difference into the final quarter, and eventually going on to win, 82-42.

The Pacers as a whole shot 29-69 (42%) on field goals, along with an outstanding 12-24 (50%) from three, and 12-17 (70.6%) from the charity stripe. The Defenders didn't fare quite as well, shooting 15-63 (23.8%) from the field, 2-19 (10.5%) from three, and 10-16 (62.5%) from the line.

Marywood was able to out-rebound Clarks Summit 52-30, with Alli Griscavage grabbing a game-leading nine boards.

The Pacers were also able to record 24 assists on the night, with McDonald leading the way with eight.

The next matchup for the Pacers will be on Friday, as they host the Colonels from Wilkes University at 6pm.
