Men's Basketball Downed by Monarchs in Overtime

Mason Mendygral leads Pacers with 16 points

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Marywood University suffered a 91-86 overtime loss to King's College Sunday in non-conference men's basketball action. The Monarchs overcame a 16-point second-half deficit.

Trevor Seitz led Marywood with 18 points. Seitz made 6 of 11 shots from the field with four 3-pointers.

Mason Mendygral and Austin Bausman each finished with 16 points apiece. Bausman tied for a team high off the glass with eight boards.

Shilo Bivins produced 10 points and seven rebounds. Cole Johnson had nine points and seven rebounds.

King's dominated in the paint by a 44-26 margin. The Pacers committed 21 turnovers to the Monarchs' 13.

Both teams shot similarly from the field with King's holding a 41.3-to-38.8 percent advantage. After shooting just 30 percent in the first half, King's made 51.43 percent of its attempts in the second 30 minutes.

Marywood's 14-point lead diminished with a 13-point King's run in less than a two-minute span. The Monarchs' Ben Rodner-Tims made a layup to pull the Monarchs within one (53-52) at the 14:!3 mark. Marywood followed with back-to-back 3-pointers from Andrew Quinn and Brendan Franko

King's claimed the lead for the first time since the first minute of the game when Carmine Castiello made a long-ranged to go ahead 68-67 with 6:14 remaining. Seitz hit a pair of 3-pointers in a minute to both tie and retake the lead.

King's went ahead 79-75 on an Eamonn Walsh basket in the paint with 48 seconds left. Seitz connected on a layup from Corey Perkins with 20 seconds to go. Two missed King's free throws allowed Mendygral to run downcourt for a layup to force overtime.

Marywood managed just one field goal in the overtime period. King's quickly took a five-point lead on a 3-pointer from Castiello and a layup by Rodner Tims. A Mendygral fastbreak layup and two Bivins free throws made it a one-point game with 3:16 left.

The two teams went scoreless for two minutes in overtime. Trailing by three, Marywood had a chance to force a second overtime; however, Mendygral missed a layup and the Monarchs connected on free throws to close the game.

King's received a game-high 22 points from Chris Patton. Castiello (18), Walsh (17) and Rodner-Tims each factored in double figures.

Marywood will take on Randolph-Macon College and SUNY Poly next weekend at the York College of Pennsylvania Showcase Tournament.
