Pacers Shutout Wilkes in Season Opener

Edwardsville, Pa. — Marywood University women's lacrosse opened its season with an 18-0 shutout over Wilkes University on Tuesday night. The victory marks the Pacers' fourth shutout in program history.

The Pacers earned their first clean sheet since a 16-0 win over Rosemont College in 2017. The Pacers also shut out Cedar Crest College in 2013 and Keystone College in 2017. 

Freshman Kaitlyn Smith led the Pacers with five goals and six draw controls in the win. Kayla McCabe matched her with five points on four goals and an assist. 

Emma Solomon, Avery Meighan and Olivia Stollsteimer each scored twice. Natalie Yilanjian added three points with a goal and two assists. Kortney Harry had a goal and an assist. 

Smith opened up the scoring just three minutes into the start of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Pacers outshot Wilkes by a 12-0 margin. Going into halftime, Marywood led Wilkes 12-0 with six different goal scorers. 

Solomon opened the third quarter with a goal just three minutes in, making it a 13-0 lead. McCabe closed out the scoring with the lone goal in the fourth quarter, finishing with a win over Wilkes.

Marywood outshot Wilkes by a 29-8 margin. The Pacers led 17-11 and 13-7 in ground balls and draw controls, respectively.

Emily Dyminski notched her first career clean sheet with five saves. 

Meighan and Shannon Croll each corralled a team-high three ground balls.

Marywood will take on King's College Thursday at the Pacers Turf Field.
