Pacers' Hard Fought Battle Not Enough Against Penn College

Williamsport, Pa. — Marywood University men's lacrosse dropped its season opener 14-11 against Penn College Wednesday night. The Pacers were unable to come back from a four-goal deficit going into halftime. 

Sophomore John Scibello led the Pacers with four goals and six ground balls. 

Penn College opened up the scoring just four minutes into the game with a goal from CJ Jones. Teammate AJ Dotson followed with another goal just four minutes later, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

With a minute left in the first quarter, the Pacers cut the lead in half off a goal from junior Dalton Metzger. The Wildcats responded with two goals and had a 4-1 lead over the Pacers going into the second quarter. 

The Pacers outscored Penn College in the fourth quarter by a 4-3 margin, but was not enough to take the victory over the Wildcats.

Matt Manna finished with two goals, and Aiden Kilkenny and Metzger finished with two goals and an assist each. Teammate Dillon Kane contributed two points on a goal and an assist. 

Colin Trainor finished with 14 saves in the loss. Nick Ericson went 17 for 27 in faceoffs. 

The squad outnumbered the Wildcats in shots and ground balls with a 49-39 and 34-27 margin, respectively.

The Pacers will host Manhattanville College for an afternoon matchup on Saturday.
