Marywood Brought Down by Gwynedd Mercy, 80-70

Jason Holman nets a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University was unable to capitalize off of a double-digit halftime lead in an 80-70 loss to Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's basketball. The loss brings the Pacers to 10-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play. The Pacers fall to sixth place in the playoff picture.

Jason Holman led the Pacers with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Holman made three 3-pointers that were the Pacers' first nine points of the game. 

Brendan Franko had a team-best 17 points. Mason Mendygral finished with 13 points. Caleb Vigil came off of the bench to add 10 points. 

Marywood stayed near its nation-best assists per game figure. The Pacers dished out 19 helpers, two short of its average for the season. Marywood came into the game leading Hunter College by a full assist per game. 

Gwynedd Mercy had Manny Clark lead with 18 points and five steals. JoHaan Vinson tallied 17 points. Thomas Brown added 12 points. 

It was a contrast of halves. After hitting just 36.36 percent of its attempts in the opening stanza, Gwynedd Mercy made 63.33 percent of its shots in the second half. Marywood had a 51.72 percent mark in the first half but hit just 27.03 percent in the second. 

With Marywood leading by 10 at half, the Griffins opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take the lead. Trevor Seitz hit a 3-pointer to even the score at 68-68 with 5:07 remaining. Gwynedd Mercy outscored the Pacers 12-2 for the remainer of the game. Vinson hit a jump shot from Christian Isopi to take the lead at 4:44. Vinson blocked an attempt at the other end, and he scored to take a four-point advantage (72-68) that proved to be the deciding points. 

Marywood faces off against first-place Marymount University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
