Pacers Put Up 17 Runs Twice in Doubleheader Sweep

Ft. Pierce, Fla. — Marywood University earned a doubleheader sweep of Gallaudet University by putting up 17 runs in both games Monday in the first game of its spring break trip. The Pacers swept the Bison by scores of 17-5 and 17-11.

Game 1: Marywood 17, Gallaudet 5

Marywood scored nine unanswered runs to shelve the Bison in the opening game.

Christian Michak led the Pacers with a 3 for 5 performance with four RBIs. He scored three runs with a triple and a stolen base.

Joey Galantini, AJ Giannetti and Quinton Roma each provided two hits apiece. Galantini scored twice, Giannetti reached in all four plate appearances, and Roma drove in a pair of RBIs.

Vinny D'Auria was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.

As a team, Marywood hit three triples.

Nick Notari (1-1) notched the victory in five innings pitched. He allowed two earned runs in five innings with a pair of strikeouts. Aaron Gutierrez struck out the side in the seventh.

Game 2: Marywood 17, Gallaudet 11

D'Auria was a home run shy of a cycle in a lengthy game that was delayed by a thunderstorm. D'Auria finished with a 4 for 5 performance at the plate with three runs, four RBIs, and seven total bases.

Marywood teed off on the Gallaudet starting pitcher to the tune of 10 runs in the first two innings. The Bison came back to score five innings to trim their deficit to 10-5 in the fourth inning.

After the Pacers generated three runs in the fifth inning, Gallaudet threated again in the fifth. Austin Sliva-Wynne hit a double to left field that drove in a run. Salvador Diaz hit a sacrifice fly. Sliva-Wynne scored on a wild pitch to shave to margin to four (13-9). AJ Jordan earned the victory in a rare effective-reliever clause. Jordan shut down the scoring threat in the fifth. Jordan allowed one earned run in two innings of work.

James Daly provided the Pacers with a 3 for 5 performance with four RBIs. AJ Kuzior and Michak each drove in two runs.

Marywood will compete against Washington College on Tuesday.
