Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Shoremen

Ft. Pierce, Fla. — Marywood University split a tightly contested doubleheader against Washington College in its baseball Spring Break trip on Tuesday. The Pacers fell 4-3 in the opener and earned a 5-3 win in the nightcap. 

Game 2: Marywood 5, Washington 3

Marywood held on to a two-run lead in the late innings. 

James Daly hit a double and drove in three runs. Vinny D'Auria reached in all three at-bats with two runs scored. 

Joseph Bruno secured the victory. Bruno struck out five batters in 4 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits and an earned run. Tyler Quick provided a save with a perfect seventh inning. 

Daly hit a based-loaded single to drive in Joey Galantini and D'Auria in the top of the first inning. After Washington halved the lead in the second, Daly came through with an RBI fielder's choice, bringing in Max Slusser. In the next at-bat, AJ Kuzior hit a sacrifice fly to bring in AJ Giannetti for a 5-1 lead. 

Washington dipped into the Marywood lead in the top of the fifth. Elias Philiposian singled in two unearmed runs to chase the starting pitcher and close the game to 5-3. 

Quick finished the win by sitting all three batters in the seventh. 

Game 1: Washington 4, Marywood 3

Slusser had two of Marywood's six hits. He hit a single in the third inning to even the score at 2-2 in the third. 

Washington added runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Logan Yi tripled in the go-ahead run in the fourth. Chase Ruppel doubled in a Shoreman run to take a 4-2 advantage in the fifth. 

In the sixth, Chris Thomas grounded out to third base to score Giannetti that brought Marywood within a run. Adam Ginsberg singled in the next at-bat, and the centerfielder threw out the potential tying run at the plate. Washington stranded a runner at second base with one out in the seventh. 

Max Ryan took the less. He struck out eight in five innings, allowing four hits. Danny Tiedemann pitched a scoreless inning.
