Softball Earns Sweep on Opening Day

Clermont, Fla. — Marywood University opened its 2023 season with a pair of wins over Oswego State and Edgewood College on Monday. The Pacers defeated the Lakers 7-2 and the Eagles 13-1.

Game 1: Marywood 7, Oswego State 2 (unofficial box score)

A four-run fourth inning broke a scoreless game and lifted the Pacers to a win in their opening game of the season. 

Emily Rose and Emma McNally each scattered a pair of hits. Rose accounted for two runs, and McNally registered two RBIs.

McNally drove in the first run on a double to center field. The Pacers scored their next two runs on bases-loaded RBI walks from Jessica Hanley and Brooke McKay. Mara Hamm hit a sacrifice fly, and Hanley touched home on a passed ball. 

Mara Hamm logged the win with a complete game. She struck out six with seven hits allowed. 

Game 2: Marywood 13, Edgewood 1 (5 inn.)

The Pacers wasted little time with five runs scored before recording their first out, chasing the Edgewood starting pitcher from the game. Marywood totaled 14 hits in five innings. 

Ashdon Clark was 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs. Clark hit a two-run home run to take a 7-0 lead in the second inning. Marissa Gregory, Sam Baltrusaitis, and McNally each finished with multi-hit performances. 

Tori Para and Abbey Stalter drove in two runs. 

Gregory secured the complete game win on the mound. She allowed three hits and an earned run in five innings of work. Gregory struck out three. 

Marywood will host Simpson College and Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday.
