Pacers Finish Spring Break With a 15-11 Loss against RIT

Clearwater, Fla. — The Marywood women's lacrosse team finished their spring break series with a 15-11 loss against Rochester Institute of Technology. The Pacers ended with a 1-1 record in the Florida trip.

Kaitlyn Smith secured three goals and five draw controls, while Avery Meighan contributed three goals, one assist, and six draw controls.

The Pacers had an early lead over the Tigers at the start of regulation. Smith opened up the scoring followed by Kayla McCabe. Alaina Brenneman had back-to-back free position shots to put Marywood in front with a 4-0 lead. Zoe Heffernan and Baylee West each added one goal to cut the lead in half to only trail by two. 

Meighan found the back of the net just one minute later off an assist from Natalie Yilanjian to regain a three goal lead. Kayleigh Ground finished out the scoring of the first quarter to trail by two. 

The second quarter consisted of four straight goals from the Tigers to gain their first lead of the game with a score of 7-5. Smith scored unassisted to notch the game at seven to enter halftime. 

Heffernan opened up the third quarter with a goal to regain the lead. Meighan scored on a woman up opportunity to notch the game at a tie. The tigers scored three unanswered goals to end the third quarter with a 12-9 lead.

Rochester Institute of Technology outscored the Pacers in the final quarter of regulation to secure the victory. 

Brenneman finished with two goals, while Emma Solomon and Yilanjian each finished with one goal and one assist.

McCabe tallied one goal and teammate Emily Dyminski earned a season high of 23 saves.

The tigers led the Pacers in shots, ground balls, and draw controls with a 46-26, 24-17, and 19-11 margin respectively.

The Pacers travel to Keystone College on Tuesday.
