Softball Closes Spring Break Trip with Split against N.Y. Squads

Clermont, Fla. — Marywood University were on both ends of a shutout to wrap up its Spring Break trip with a split against a pair of New York teams. The Pacers defeated Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) 3-0 and were blanked by SUNY Geneseo 8-0 in sixth innings. 

Marywood finishes its Florida slate with a 5-3 record. 

Game 1: Marywood 3, Mount Saint Mary 0

Mara Hamm pitched a complete game shutout and drove in the go-ahead runs. 

In a scoreless game in the fifth inning, Hamm hit a one-out double to score Brooke McKay. McKay led off with a single. Sydney Steiner placed a sacrifice bunt to advance McKay to third. Three batters later, Tori Pari cleared the bases with a two-RBI double that scored Priscilla Grill and Emily Rose. 

Hamm earned her fifth career shutout. She pitched seven innings of four-hit ball. She allowed four walks and struck out one. 

Offensively, Marywood was led by Alex Dusman's 2 for 4 performance. Hamm finished 2 for 2 with an RBI. Para drove in a pair of RBIs.

Hamm finished the seventh by forcing back-to-back fielder's choices to tag out the lead runner at third base. 

Game 2: Geneseo 8, Marywood 0 (6 inn.)

Geneseo scored five runs in the first inning en route to a shutout of the Pacers. Marywood was kept to six singles. 

Marywood will take on Clarks Summit University on Tuesday in the Abingtons.
