Baseball Scores 10 Unanswered Runs to Down Monarchs

Max Slusser drives in three runs

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University overcame a two-run deficit by scoring 10 unanswered runs in a 10-2 victory over King's College on Tuesday in non-conference baseball. The Pacers played their first home game of the season.

Marywood relief pitcher AJ Jordan earned his third victory of the season. Jordan came in relief of starting pitcher Joseph Bruno to throw two scoreless innings. Jordan was part of a Pacers' bullpen that allowed just five hits in five scoreless innings.

Christian Michak was 3 for 5 with two runs, a stolen base and an RBI. Chris Thomas and Danny Tiedmann were both 2 for 3. Max Slusser drove in a team-high three RBIs.

After King's put a pair of runs on Pacer Field's new scoreboard, Marywood matched them in the bottom of the first inning. Michak and Adam Ginsberg led off with back-to-back singles. Once Vinny D'Auria moved runners along with a groundout, Slusser drove in the first RBI of the game. Thomas saw a bases-loaded walk to even the score at 2-2.

Marywood took the lead an inning later. Tiedemann and Michak each tallied singles to start the frame. With two runners in scoring position, D'Auria hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Tiedemann for a 3-2 advantage.

The Pacers broke the game open in the fourth inning. After a pair of leadoff walks, Slusser cleared the bases with a double to center field to score D'Auria and Ginsberg. Giannetti took advantage of a pitching change for a two-bagger down the right line that scored Slusser. Giannetti scored on a throwing error by the catcher to take a 7-2 lead.

Marywood (7-5) wins its second straight over the Monarchs (6-9) after losing the previous four in the series.

Bruno allowed one earned run in four innings with four strikeouts. Max Ryan, Nick Notari and Michael Aronica each threw a scoreless inning.

The Pacers head to Delaware Valley University on Wednesday.
