Pacers Succumb to the Cougars in Overtime Behind Meighan's Five Goals

Dallas, Pa. — Marywood University women's lacrosse fell to Misericorida 16-15 in overtime Thursday night. Avery Meighan led the Pacers with seven points on five goals and two assists and collected 11 draw controls. The Pacers drop to 5-4 overall. 

Emma Solomon scored first for the Pacers off an assist from Meighan. Kaitlyn Smith tacked one on off a free position shot to put the Pacers ahead 2-0. One minute later, Misericordia's Rachel Shook scored unassisted to cut the lead in half. The Meighan to Solomon duo quickly responded to put the Pacers ahead 3-1 to finish the first quarter.

Early on in the second quarter, Alicia Pileggi added a goal to trail by one. Kylee Cush followed with the equalizer to notch the game at three a piece. Meighan scored off an assist from Lauren Matarazzo to put the Pacers ahead once more. The rest of the quarter was back and forth between the Pacers and Cougars. Misericordia's Genevieve Montanye closed out the second quarter to reestablish the lead, 8-6 to go into halftime. 

The Pacers dominated the third quarter with six unanswered goals to have a 12-8 lead. Emily Baro and Skylar Dowling each had a goal to cut the lead down and only trailed by two. 

The fourth quarter started with Misericordia's four unanswered goals. Meighan put the Pacers back up with a goal, despite being a woman down. Dowling added one more to lead the Pacers by two, however Meighan capitalized on a woman up opportunity. With just four seconds left in regulation, Emily McLaughlin scored the much needed equalizer on a free position shot to force the game into overtime. 

Montayne scored the golden goal in the last two minutes of the overtime period off an assist from Cush to take the victory.

Solomon contributed four goals, while Smith added three goals and one assist. 

McLaughlin finished with two goals, Olivia Stollsteimer tallied one goal, while Matarazzo added an assist.

Kortney Harry collected eight saves. 

Misericordia led the Pacers in shots and groundballs by a 34-30 and 18-16 margin respectively.

The Pacers will host Eastern University Saturday.
