Notari Comes Two Outs Shy of No-Hitter to Down Cyclones

Joseph Bruno, Christian Michak hit back-to-back home runs

Scranton, Pa. — Junior Nick Notari came just two outs shy of a no-hitter in the nightcap of Marywood University's split with Centenary University. In its Atlantic East Conference baseball home opener, the Pacers lost the first game 8-7 in eight innings and averted a series sweep with an 11-1 victory.

Notari (Abington Heights) took the no-hitter into the seventh inning. With one out, Cole Heitzman doubled down the left field line for the Cyclones' first hit.

Notari allowed a hit and an earned run in a seven-inning complete game. He struck out five with three walks.

Joseph Bruno (West Scranton) and Christian Michak (Wyoming Valley West) hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning. Bruno was 2 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Michak finished 3 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

AJ Kuzior and Quinton Roma each finished with two hits. Kuzior reached base three times, and Roma scored twice.

AJ Giannetti went 1 for 3 with two runs, an RBI and a double.

In the opening game, Centenary came back two down to even the score in the fifth. Dominick Chiego drove in the game-winning run with a single to right center field that scored Jake Keenan in the eighth inning.

The Cyclones came back from as many as five runs down in the third inning.

All nine hitters in the Marywood (8-8, 2-1 AEC) lineup recorded at least one hit.

Max Slusser (Berwick) went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, two walks, a double, and a run scored. Kuzior and Bruno batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Michak recorded two hits and two runs.

Matthew Klipple pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-hit ball. He struck out one batter. Tyler Quick had his first loss of the season with an earned run in the eighth.

Centenary's Keenan notched the win with two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits with two strikeouts. Keenan escaped an eighth inning game with the tying runner in scoring position. Keenan forced a fly out for the win.
