Marywood Splits with Saints to Open Atlantic East Slate

Ashdon Clark homers and drives in four RBIs

Arlington, Va. — Marywood University began its Atlantic East Conference softball schedule Sunday with a split against Marymount University. The Pacers fell to the Saints 2-1 in the opener before taking the nightcap by a 6-1 score. 

In the second game, Ashdon Clark went 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Clark opened the game with a three-run home run in the first inning. 

Marissa Gregory recorded her sixth victory of the season and her third in the Pacers' past four games. She tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run. Gregory had two walks and one strikeout. 

Tori Para finished 3 for 5 with a double and a run. Emily Rose went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Jessia Hanley reached twice with two runs scored. 

Marywood (10-4, 1-1) scored three runs in the first inning. Para hit a leadoff double, and Rose singled to left field to put runners on the corners. Clark blasted a pitch to left center to clear the bases. 

Marywood added to its lead with a bases-loaded walk fby Rose. After Marymount hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning, Rose ripped a bases-loaded single to shortstop to add to its lead in the fifth. Clark capped the Pacers' run production with an RBI walk. 

The Saints scored two early runs in the opener. S. Burch had a solo home run in the first inning. The Saints' took advantage of an error in the second run. Hailey Leamer hit a single to center field that brought in Kaylee Atkins for a 2-0 lead. 

Marywood got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Para led off with a walk, and Emma McNally beat out an infield single. Gregory hit a two-out single to right field. A Mara Hamm walk put both the tying and go-ahead runners on base. Mikaela Badner hit into a fielder's choice to end the threat at a 2-1 deficit. 

McNally was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Gregory had the lone RBI.

Hamm took the loss in a complete-game effort. She had six strikeouts in six innings. Hamm allowed an earned run and two walks. 

Monday's rain postponed the Pacers' game with SUNY Delhi to Wednesday. Marywood will take on crosstown University of Scranton on Tuesday at the Kevin P. Quinn Athletics Complex.
