Perfecto! Gregory Throws Perfect Game to Lead Pacers' Silencing of First-Place Cyclones

Mara Hamm flirts with no-no, comes two hits shy of five-inning no-hitter

Scranton, Pa. -- Marywood University kept first-place Centenary University hitless for 11 innings to secure a sweep in a pivotal Atlantic East Conference softball matchup. The Pacers beat the Cyclones 3-0 in the opening game and earned an 11-0 win in five innings in the night cap.

Marissa Gregory threw the second perfect game in Marywood softball history. Gregory struck out nine in seven innings. She allowed seven flyouts and five groundouts to take down the Cyclones.

In the second game, Mara Hamm came three outs away from a no-hitter of her own. Pinch-hitter Danielle Bayles hit a come-backer to Hamm that bounced off her glove and trickled into the outfield for the Cyclones' only hit of the game.

Hamm went five innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout. Marywood committed four errors, and the Cyclones put four runners on base.

Marywood (15-7, 4-2 AEC) moved into first place in the Atlantic East standings. With the sweep, the Pacers leapfrogged from sixth to first place.

In the opening game, Marywood put two runs in the first inning. Ashdon Clark registered the first hit of the game with a double to right center. Tori Para hit a two-out triple to deep left field that put the first run on the scoreboard. Gregory added to the lead with a single to left field to take a 2-0 lead.

Hamm led off the third with a single to right field. Emily Rose beat out a bunt single. Hamm scored on a wild pitch.

Gregory completed the perfect game by collecting a comeback ground ball and throwing the runner out at first base.

Rose led the Pacers' offense with a 2 for 3 effort with a double. Clark hit a double, and Para tripled.

In the second game, Marywood blew out a 3-0 game with an eight-run fourth inning.

Jessica Hanley hit a sacrifice fly to score Emma McNally for the first run in the second inning. Abbey Stalter reached on a fielding error, and Para scored an unearned run for a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Clark led off with a triple. McNally hit a grounder to second base to score the third run of the game.

Clark finished 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Brooke McKay finished 3 for 3 with two runs, a triple and an RBI. Para scored twice.

Marywood hit three extra base hits. Baltrusaitis had a double, and Clark and McKay hit a triple.

Kristie Alvarez threw a perfect game against Notre Dame (Md.) in 2017.

The Pacers travel to Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday. Marywood will take on the Griffins on the Temple University-Ambler campus.
