Runs Aplenty as Pacers Fall Short to Saints

Marymount hits go-ahead hit on a comebacker that deflected off pitcher's mitt

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University and Marymount University's offense caught fire in summer-like temperatures in the opening game of Atlantic East Conference baseball action. The Pacers fell to the Saints 12-11 in a game that featured 33 total hits and more than 300 pitches.

The Saints' Ryan Cuadros hit a go-ahead double in the top of the ninth inning. Cuadros had a bit of good fortune as his comebacker ricocheted off of the pitcher's mitt and into the left side of the outfield.

Marywood's Joey Galantini went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Adam Ginsberg went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.

Vinny D'Auria had his 100th career hit in a 2 for 5 effort at the plate. D'Auria collected a double, run and an RBI. In left field, he had a pair of outstanding plays. D'Auria made a diving lunge to catch a ball face-first in the second inning. He kept the Saints from adding to their lead in the top of the ninth when he gunned down a Cuadros at home plate with an A.J. Giannetti putout.

All nine hitters in the Marywood lineup finished with at least one base hit.

Cuadros was 4 for 6 with five RBIs and a home run for the Saints. Jimmy Baker batted 3 for 6.

Marywood batted around as part of a six-run third inning to take a 6-4 lead. Max Slusser hit an RBI single through the left time to move within two runs. Adam Ginsberg took off for home on a delayed steal after a failed pickoff to first base. AJ Giannetti singled up the middle to even the score at 4-4, and Galantini gave Marywood its first lead of the game with a double to clear the bases.

Marymount came back from a three-run deficit to even the game on a fielding error in the top of the eighth. James Myers broke the 10-10 tie with a sacrifice fly that allowed Ginsberg to score.

The two teams will resume their series on Saturday morning, pending weather, at Pacer Park.
