Game Recap: Baseball |

Pacers Swept by Saints in Rain-Shortened Doubleheader

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University came on the short end of both Atlantic East Conference baseball doubleheader games. The Pacers fell to Marymount University 6-1 in the opener and 9-6 in a rain-shortened second game.

Game 2: Marymount 9, Marywood 5 (8 inn.)

In the nightcap, the Pacers had the go-ahead run at-bat in both the seventh and eighth innings, only to come up without a run-driving base hit. The Saints scored three runs in the top of the ninth, and an 84-minute lightning delay followed by heavy rain forced umpires to call the game.

Vinny D'Auria went hit a pair of doubles to drive in two runs. Christian Michak and AJ Kuzior each went 2 for 3. Danny Tiedemann and Adam Ginsberg scored twice.

Gerard O'Hare took the mound, allowing two runs and three hits in four innings. Aidan Dolan pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball.

Aaron Gutierrez pitched a lights-out two innings from the bullpen with two strikeouts. Danny Cossa retired all three batters faced in the ninth.

Game 1: Marymount 6, Marywood 1 (7 inn.)

The Saints recorded three runs in the first inning and relied on starting pitcher Andrew Schaeb's offspeed pitches to take the win.

Schaeb struck out 11 in seven innings for a complete game. He allowed three hits and two walks.

Marywood starting pitcher Max Ryan settled down after a rocky first inning. He had a quality start, allowing three earned runs and eight hits in six innings. Ryan totaled two strikeouts.

Michak had two of the Pacers' three singles. AJ Giannetti was 1 for 3.

D'Auria brought in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Marywood hosts Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) on Tuesday.
