Pacers Come Back in Eighth to Take Down Knights

Christian Michak breaks single-season steals record

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University came back in the eighth inning to defeat Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) 5-4 Tuesday in non-conference baseball action. Trailing by one, the Pacers plated two runs.

Christian Michak broke the Marywood single-season steals record in the first inning. Michak stole twice to surpass Vince Rebar's 2017 record with his 26th and 27th stolen bases of the season.

Chris Thomas drove in the game-winning RBI by drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Vinny D'Auria.

Marywood rallied entirely with two outs in the inning. Adam Ginsberg reached on an outfield error. D'Auria singled to left field to tie the game, and James Myers walked. Max Slusser was issued an intentional free pass on a pinch-hit opportunity to load the bases and set up Thomas' RBI opportunity.

Brett Kugler earned his first career victory. He allowed one hit and no runs in 2 1/3 innings. Kugler struck out two.

The top four hitters —Michak, Ginsberg, D'Auria, Myers — in Marywood's lineup finished with two hits.

Myers reached base in all five plate appearances. He was 2 for 2 with three walks.

Michak batted 2 for 5 with two runs, two stolen bases, a double and an RBI.

Starting pitcher Danny Becker allowed just one hit and no runs in four innings. He struck out two with three walks. John Downey came in relief to strike out three in 1 2/3 innings with no earned runs.

Michak singled down the left line and took second base to break the school record. Advancing to third on a balk, Michak scored the first run of the game on a delayed double steal with D'Auria.

Marywood (13-17) added two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Rob Egan led off with a single to left field. Roma reached on an error, and Michak doubled to left field to score Egan. Ginsberg followed with an RBI single to short center field.

Aidan Marshall had three of the Knights' four RBIs.

Marywood will take on Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference series this weekend.
