Marywood Comes Short in Both Ends of Marathon Doubleheader

Sam Baltrusaitis increases her batting averaged by 79 points after 6 for 6 day

Horseheads, N.Y. — Marywood University was swept by Elmira College 7-5 and 15-14 in non-conference softball on the road. Both teams combined for 41 runs, 50 hits and 149 plate appearances in the doubleheader that took five hours to complete.

Sam Baltrusaitis improved her batting average by 74 points with a 6 for 6 performance at the plate. Baltrusaitis finished with five runs, three doubles, two walks, one triple, and one RBI. She reached base eight times.

Game 2: Elmira 15, Marywood 14

The Soaring Eagles came back from six runs down in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

Ashdon Clark hit two long balls to become just the fifth in Marywood history with a multi-home run game. Clark went 3 for 4 with three runs and five RBIs.

Tori Para went 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Priscilla Grill batted 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Jessica Hanley drove in a pair of runs.

Baltrusaitis was a home run shy of a cycle with a 4 for 4 performance with four runs scored.

Game 1: Elmira 7, Marywood 5

Marywood had a comeback of its own after trailing 7-1 through four innings.

Clark hit an RBI groundout in the fifth inning to score Sam Ferrera. Tori Para brought in Emily Rose to make it 7-3.

An inning later, Ferrera drove in a run with an RBI single that brought home two runs. With a run on third, Marywood was unable to plate a run, and the Soaring Eagles shut down the Pacers in a perfect seventh inning.

Baltrusaitis doubled twice and scored a run. Emily Rose went 2 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base. Ferrera batted safely in both of her at-bats.

Marywood has a pivotal Atlantic East Conference doubleheader Wednesday vs. Gwynedd Mercy University on Temple University's Ambler campus. There will be no live stats or live video for the contest.
