Pacers Put 10s on the Scoreboard on Senior Day

Marywood honors seniors Mara Hamm, Emily Rose, Ashdon Clark, Becca Zayle, Brooke McKay and Samantha Baltrusaitis

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University scored 10 runs in both ends of a doubleheader to sweep Cedar Crest College on Saturday in non-conference softball. The Pacers earned 10-2 and 10-7 victories. 

Mara Hamm and Tori Para both finished with four RBIs throughout the day. Brooke McKay and Samantha Baltrusaitis reached five times

Game 1: Marywood 10, Cedar Crest 2 (5 inn.)

A seven-run first inning propelled Marywood to a comfortable victory in the opener. 

Mara Hamm went 2 for 3 with a run, walk and three RBIs. Tori Para was also 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. 

Samantha Baltrusaitis finished 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. 

Marissa Gregory improved her record to 12-1 on the season. She allowed two earned runs and struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings. At the plate, Gregory was 2 for 2 with a double, run and an RBI.

The first three Marywood batters walked. Para doubled to center field to score a pair of runs. Baltrusaitis singled to center, Brooke McKay hit an opposite field single, and McNally launchd a sacrifice fly to take a 5-0 lead with just one out in the game. Gregory hit a double to left field that scored McKay. Hamm closed out the scoring with a base hit to left field that gave Marywood a 7-0 advantage. 

Gregory was two outs shy of tying Hamm for the single-season shutouts record when Laney Ferraro launched a solo home run for the Falcons. 

Game 2: Marywood 10, Cedar Crest 7

Marywood scored nine answered runs to open the game as the Falcons chipped away at Marywood's lead to avoid the run rule. 

Baltrusaitis homered for the 15th time in her career as part of a 3 for 4 effort. Baltrusaitis was just a triple shy of a cycle. She had two runs and two RBIs. 

Para matched her production from the earlier game. She had two hits, two runs and two RBIs with a double. 

Brooke McKay tripled as part of a two-hit performance. Emma McNally went 2 for 2 with a. run and an RBI. 

Hamm notched her ninth win of the year. She struck out eight batters in seven innings. 

Marywood used a three-run first and a six-run second inning to catapult to a large 9-0 lead. Hamm sat down the first eight batters of the game via six strikeouts. After allowing her first two runners in the fourth, Hamm kept the Falcons scoreless with another strikeout.

After Cedar Crest spoiled the shutout chance with three runs in the fourth inning, Marywood picked up an important run in the fourth. McKay found open real estate in left field and slid into third for a triple. Priscilla Grill hit a sacrifice fly that gave Marywood a 10-3 advantage. 

The Falcons put themselves in position to send the game into extra innings. With runs in three straight innings, Cedar Crest had the tying run at the plate in the seventh. After a flyout to center and a comebacker to Hamm, the Falcons hit two singles to have two runners on base with a 10-7 disadvantage. Hamm fooled Ferraro with a low fastball to seal the victory. 

Marywood's doubleheader versus Misericordia on Sunday has been cancelled. The Pacers will travel to King's College on Tuesday.
