Pacers Dig the Long Ball in Nightcap to Split Series with Cabrini

Marissa Gregory notches eighth win of the season

Radnor, Pa. – A Samantha Baltrusaitis home run woke up the Marywood University bats after dropping the first game of the Atlantic East Conference softball doubleheader. The Pacers responded to a 10-0 loss in the opener with a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.

Baltrusaitis connected for her second roundtripper of the season in the first inning. Emma McNally hit a two-out single up the middle, and Ashdon Clark advanced her to second base by poking a ball through the right side. Baltrusaitis clobbered a three-run shot to give Marywood an early 3-0 lead.

Baltrusaitis finished 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Her home run was one of three on the game for Marywood. Clark and McNally both went yard for the Pacers.

Clark was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs. McNally finished 2 for 3 with three runs. Combined, the Nos. 4-6 spots in the lineup batted 7 for 11 with eight runs and six RBIs.

Marissa Gregory was masterful on the mound to improve her record to 8-1 overall. She allowed one earned run and struck out nine in a complete game effort. She allowed just five hits and two walks.

After Cabrini chiseled at the Pacers' three-run lead with one in the second, McNally hit a solo shot in the third to take a 4-1 advantage. The Cavaliers responded in the third with a solo home run of their own to move to 4-2.

Marywood used a three-run fifth inning to distance themselves from the reigning Atlantic East champions. Mara Hamm led off with a walk, and McNally was hit by a pitch to move runners into scoring position. Clark doubled to right field that drove in a run, and an error allowed McNally to touch home. Marywood added its final run when Tori Para reached on an error by the Cabrini shortstop that enabled Clark to score.

Emily Rose tallied the only two hits for the Pacers in the opening game. She also contributed with a stolen base.

Marywood (13-7, 2-2) will welcome Centenary University on Thursday at 3 p.m.
