Men's Lacrosse Upends Centenary in Atlantic East Matchup

Scranton, Pa.— Marywood University evened its Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse record with a 25-4 defeat of Centenary University on Thursday. Nick Ericson earned a spot in the single-game record books for faceoff's won and ground balls with 26 and 15, respectively.

Ericson won 26-29 face off's, scooped up 15 groundballs, and also tallied one goal. Dalton Metzger collected six points on four goals and two assists. John Scibello tallied seven points on three goals and four assists.

The Pacers had an early lead as Ben Pizzarello scored just two minutes in. Scibello followed quickly after to find his first of the game. Matt Potter scored after he caused a turnover and took it down to the goal to tally his first career goal. Scibello, Dillon Kane, and Pizzarello each tacked one more on before Centenary's Mark Giles broke up the scoring to trail 6-1. Aiden Kilkenny and Metzger each secured a goal off assists from Scibello to close out the first quarter.

Just 30 seconds into the second, Matt Manna found his first of the game. Metzger continued the scoring off an assist from Manna to gain a nine goal lead over the Cyclones. Scibello and Metzger each contributed one more goal a piece before Ben Mustakos joined in on the scoring. Kilkenny, Kieran Scanlan, Metzger, Zach Saneman, and Mustakos each tacked on one more goal before closing out the first half to lead 18-1.

Manna opened up the second half on an unassisted goal. Jake Plokhoy joined in on the scoring to tally his first goal of the season. Centenary's Devin McMullen broke up the Pacers' scoring to trail by 18. Kane resumed the scoring on an unassisted goal with just six seconds left of the third. 

Sophomore Ben Peters tallied a goal on an assist from Alonzo Perez to secure his first goal of the season. Plokhoy followed to tally his second of the game to increase the lead by 21. Ericson found the back of the net off a Gabe Stover helper. Centenary's Brian Rosko contributed a goal off an assist from Giles on a man-up opportunity. Three minutes later, Pieters added a goal of an assist from Metzger. The Cyclones' Nick Wickkiser closed out the scoring.

Kilkenny, Pizzarello, Kane, Pieters, Plokhoy, and Mustakos each finished with two goals. Manna tallied two goals and one assist. Saneman, Ericson, Potter, and Scanlan contributed a goal each. 

Perez, Stover, and Miccio each finished with an assist. Colin Trainor made two saves in goal on just 10 shots faced. Seth Croll had his claim to fame with 23 seconds in goal.

The Pacers will host Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday.
