Swarthmore, Pa. - The Marywood University women's soccer team opened up its 2023 season with a tough loss at Swarthmore College on Friday evening.
Marywood (0-1) lost to Swarthmore College in a 6-1 defeat. Swarthmore dominated play, outshooting the Pacers 32 to 5.
Swarthmore's opening goal came from Ava Gizzie in the 11th minute, assisted by Allie Zitelli and Marea Lee. Only six minutes after in the 17th minute Swarthmore scored again, this time from Marea Lee, assisted by Lauren Lior.
It seemed to be how the game played out for the Pacers. Swarthmore's Eloise Franz scored their third goal in the 28th minute to conclude action in the first half of play.
The Pacers opened up action to start the second half in the 47th minute when the Pacers were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore Carly Walters scored on the penalty, making that Marywood's only goal for the game.
Swarthmore scored three more goals in the second half to conclude the game. Lauren Lior scored two and Macie Mangini scored the final goal off a Rebecca Putnam assist.
The Pacers will look to bounce back at home on September 6 against the University of Scranton at 7 p.m.
