Early Goal Lifts Young Pacers Squad over Hartwick

Nolan Kozera nets a goal in the 10th minute

Oneonta, N.Y. — Marywood University opened its men's soccer season with a 1-0 victory over Hartwick College on Friday night. It is the second consecutive year the Pacers opened their season with an one-goal win over the Hawks.

Marywood scored the lone goal from a pair of freshmen in the 10th minute. The Pacers capitalized on a set piece following a Hartwick foul. Jack Forbes logged a ball over the Hartwick defender's heads from the back line. Kozera made a great run and scored just outside the box with his right foot to the lower-left corner of the goal.

In the second half, the Hawks increased intensity and began to put pressure on the Marywood back line but could not break through.

Hartwick received a late free-kick opportunity with the clock expiring but would miss high as time expired.

Hartwick outshot Marywood 9-3 and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on target. The Hawks had a 7-1 advantage in corners.

Alex Russo secured the clean sheet with four saves. In the 48th minute, Russo saved a Jim Mahony penalty kick chance.

Marywood leads the series history 3-1 over Hartwick.

The Pacers will face Keystone College on the road on Sunday.
