Field Hockey Falls to Cross-town Scranton in Last Minute

SCRANTON, Pa. — A University of Scranton goal scored with 16 seconds remaining in regulation was the only difference in Marywood University's 2-1 loss in a cross-town field hockey rivalry game on Tuesday. The Pacers fall to 1-2 record overall.

The Pacers (1-2) jumped ahead early with their goal coming in the ninth minute. On a penalty corner opportunity, Cassie Slusser connected with Cydney Lahr who laced the ball past the goalkeeper to put the Pacers on the board.

It marked Lahr's first goal of the season and first since the 2021 season after missing a semester abroad.

Scranton (4-1) responded in the second period when Cori Davis scored to tie up the game in the 21st minute.

With a minute of regular time remaining, the Royals drew a penalty corner. Davis found Elle Collins to score what would be the game-winning goal.

Marywood goalkeeper Leah Ewing finished with 10 saves in the cage. Her counterpart Gianna Travia made one stop.

Aliyah Heintzelman tallied a defensive save in the fourth minute.

The Royals outshot the Pacers 20-5 and by 5-2 margin on target. Scranton doubled Marywood 10-5 on penalty corners.

The Pacers look to rebound when they travel to Upstate New York to face Oneonta Saturday.
