Marywood earns its third shutout victory in home opener

SCRANTON, Pa.--- The Marywood University men's soccer team paved its way to a 2-0 victory over Penn State Brandywine Thursday night. The Pacers scored both goals in the second half to defeat the Lions in their home opener.

The Pacers (3-2) scored their first goal when a handball was called on Penn State Brandywine in the box. Danny Gomez took the penalty shot at the 50th minute and buried it in the back of the net. 

In the 67th minute, Kyle Falcon cut in on Brandywine's defender for a breakaway opportunity and laced the shot in the bottom left corner of the net to extend the Pacers' lead.  

Penn State Brandywine's goalkeeper Elijiah DeBooth recorded three saves. Alex Russo captured his third clean sheet of the season.

Marywood kept Penn State Brandywine off the board for the entirety of the match, securing its third shutout victory of the season. 

The Pacers edged the Lions 12-9 in total shots. Brandywine had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Lions failed to get a shot on target. The Pacers edged the Lions 12-9 in total shots.

The Pacers will travel just up the road Saturday to take on Clarks Summit University.
