Marywood Ties Cougars on Second Half Tallies

Caroline Walters scored her first goal of the season

Union, N.J. - A pair of second-half goals drew Marywood University into a 2-2 tie against Kean University Wednesday in non-conference women's soccer. The Pacers end a two-game losing streak with the draw.

Trailing by one goal, Riley Mulherin and Caroline Walters gave the Pacers the lead on goals within a seven minute-span of each other. Walters sent a long pass that allowed Mulherin to turn and tie the game with a 27-yard strike to the far corner in the 63rd minute. Walters quickly gave Marywood a 2-1 advantage in the 70th minute. On a Sarah Kretchmer throw, Carly Walters dished a ball to her sister in the corner. Caroline hit a left-footed shot to the top frame.

Kean's Sonya Brewer had a brace. She scored in the second minute to give the Cougars an early cushion. Brewer evened the score late with an 83rd minute tally.

Marywood out-shot Kean by a 16-13 margin although the Cougars had a 8-3 tilt in shots on target. Marywood did lead 9-4 in corner kicks.

Mila Elash notched the tie with six saves.

Marywood will take on Alvernia University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
