Pacers Outshine Golden Wolves

Marywood has dominant second half

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University women's soccer team (2-4-1) defeated Alvernia University (1-6-1) 4-2 in a wet and frigid match on Saturday. The Pacers had a fantastic second half to capture the 4-2 victory.

Riley Mulherin opened up the scoring in the 19th minute, putting the Pacers on the board first. Mulherin headed the ball past the Golden Wolves keeper, off of a corner kick served up by Josephine Sorce

Alvernia wasted no time evening the match and then pulled ahead, with 2 goals by Haley Dougherty. The first coming in the 29th minute, on an unassisted free kick by Dougherty. The second Dougherty goal was placed just right of the Marywood keeper,  assisted by Kalyn Keen and putting the Golden Wolves ahead in the 45th minute. 

The Pacers were not out of the match, however. Marywood had a powerful second half that silenced the Golden Wolves. Josephine Sorce scored a goal of her own in the 63rd minute, assisted by Riley Mulherin, to even up the score once again. 

In the 72nd minute, Caroline Plank puts the third Marywood goal into the back of the net, regaining the lead for the Pacers. The assist came on yet another corner kick from Sorce, her second of the match. 

The fourth and final Pacer goal came in the 85th minute, when a free kick by Sorce deflected off of an Alvernia defender and went past the keeper to pad the lead. 

Marywood led Alvernia in total shots 23-13, as well as shots on goal 10-6. Mila Elash recorded four saves for the Pacers today, while Alvernia's keeper, Brynn Brock, recorded seven. 

The Pacers will be on the road on Wednesday when they face Wilkes University.
